This tenor sax cover is my tribute to Angela Bofill, a very talented and beautiful artist this world has recently lost. May she rest in peace.
Just a note: anyone who’s played an instrument and who progresses past the beginner level knows that each instrument is different, with its own temperament, personality, moods and preferences. You really have to get to know an instrument very well to be able to get the best out of it. I don’t really play tenor sax all that often. I’ve actually had this tenor sax longer than I’ve had my current alto sax (5 years vs. 4 years for the alto), but, to use a very crude metaphor, my alto sax is like my true love and the tenor sax is like the girl I like to flirt with every once in awhile when things seem to be going stale with my alto (I probably play the tenor 2-3 times every 3 months or so). However, I always end up realizing that I love my alto and the tenor is nothing more than a distraction. So, I’ve never really gotten to know my tenor.
However, in the past few weeks, I have been making a conscious effort to get to know my tenor more intimately. And let me tell you, it has really made a very strong case to be promoted from “girl I like to flirt with occasionally” to at least “best friend I can run and complain to/spend some time with whenever my alto is being extremely difficult, moody and temperamental.”
One last note: I was pretty lazy with this one and just recorded the harmonies one time (then copied and pasted the tracks to the other applicable chorus sections). I may redo this tomorrow and record separate harmonies for each chorus. Or not.
